Travel

Travel is at the heart of Outdoor Ruhls, shaping our stories and deepening our family traditions. Some of our greatest memories—and many of our favorite podcast episodes—have come from journeys that carried us far beyond our backyard. From family road trips across the United States to once-in-a-lifetime international adventures, travel is how we connect with each other, the outdoors, and the wider world.

Kate has always been the family’s trailblazer when it comes to travel. Her adventures have taken her across continents, feeding a lifelong love of exploring new places and cultures. She brings those stories into our conversations, showing how travel can shape perspective and create bonds that last a lifetime.

As a family, we’ve shared unforgettable experiences abroad. Argentina gave us rivers full of fish and campfires under southern skies, where the lessons of patience and partnership carried as much weight as the catch itself. Norway tested us in new ways—traveling across oceans with multiple generations, hopping planes and ferries, and finally finding ourselves in the wild beauty of Sørøya Island, chasing halibut in the Arctic Circle. Those trips weren’t just about fishing; they were about family resilience, laughter, and the sense of awe that comes from standing together in a new land.

Closer to home, we’ve wandered coastlines from Delaware to Virginia, fished mountain streams in Montana, and explored national parks and hidden corners all across America. Each trip, whether it’s a big international journey or a quick weekend away, becomes part of the Outdoor Ruhls story—a story about family, discovery, and the belief that the road itself is just as important as the destination.
